Clipping

A whole lot of retouching is just knowing what to select or clip and why. Here are some examples of some of the more trickier clipping masks I’ve made.

PLEASE Note and USE the <SLIDERS> to see Before & After images. Best viewed on a desktop!

Hair & Fur is the main items that are time intensive when clipping. This Sweet Earth beast was NO exception. I wanted to show you a closer version so you can see the details and whisker level precision. His friends below were a bit easier but still a time suck. And yes the background changed colors too.

Blurry, or in this case moving items, can be very difficult to clip from a background. Thankfully these blades were on a fairly consistent sky, and now they can go anything the clients wants them on.

Focus on the tail of the horse. It was grey on grey and not trimmed for a party. meticulous clipping and redrawing of hair allowed this poster to proclaim the party.

Most the ingredients were shot separately. So going grain by grain in some cases, allowed for this Sweet Earth pizza to showcase the many premium items on it’s box.

Lights, Camera, Retouching and then ACTION! Showing what different wall graphics might look like was tricky with all the light, metal girders, and transparent signs in the way.

Seeing the background through transparent bottles and lids may not catch everyone’s eyes, but it drives me nuts. Attention to details SHOULD matter!? Also not shown is all these items were different sized, and making them proportional to each other was it’s own puzzle. I didn’t have the actual items in front of me, nor any shot in the same image. Ohh and reflections!

What’s that, you want a chicken philly cheesesteak to be a chicken and BACON with ranch sandwich? Yeah, I can do that, as long as you have plenty of other images and references for me to pull and clip from.
